Jason Steer is the Executive Director of Creative Alliance, one of Baltimore’s leading multi-arts organizations and a vital home for artists, audiences, and community-centered cultural programming. A proud Londoner with more than two decades of experience in the arts, Jason has built his career around expanding access, supporting creative communities, and connecting artistic talent with opportunity. His journey has taken him from London to the Apollo Theater in New York, where he helped develop programs that advanced artists and deepened community engagement. With a background in Studio Art and Sociology, Jason brings to his work a clear belief that arts organizations must be more than presenters of culture. They must be civic spaces where artists are supported, communities are seen, and people gather across difference.
Jason’s leadership is rooted in imagination, connection, and accountability. At Creative Alliance, he brings together artists, staff, board members, funders, civic partners, and audiences around a shared vision for the organization as a cultural anchor for Baltimore. His experience in program design, education, and creative expression continues to shape his commitment to inclusive, culturally resonant work. A champion for underrepresented voices, Jason believes the arts should not only reflect the communities they serve, but also create pathways for participation, recognition, and opportunity.
As Executive Director, Jason is focused on strengthening Creative Alliance for its next chapter while preserving the artist-centered values, community trust, accessibility, and creative risk that have defined the organization for more than 30 years. His work reflects a deep understanding that the arts are connected to community health, economic opportunity, youth development, neighborhood identity, and civic life. With steady leadership, broad experience, and his signature British wit, Jason is helping enrich Baltimore’s creative landscape while positioning Creative Alliance as both a home for artists and a force for connection, growth, and social change
