Highlandtown A&E District

Highlandtown A&E District

The Highlandtown Arts District builds community in neighborhoods experiencing cultural transition by creating a destination for culturally-informed art and expression from around the world in Baltimore.

About this A&E District

The Highlandtown Arts & Entertainment District is vibrant, creative, international, and eclectic. We are home to the Creative Alliance, Highlandtown Gallery, Crystal Moll Gallery, Dreamers & Make-Believers Comics and Books, and more.

We’re a neighborhood of makers: designers, jewelry makers, and sculptors work alongside coffee roasters, piñata makers, and chefs. We welcome artists from across the country and around the globe through our residency programs and public art projects. We showcase our local talents with Mariachi bands, painted screens, and public art.

Highlandtown is the place to come for delightful food and drink options like Franchesca’s Empanadas Cafe, Snake Hill Tavern, and Ovenbird Bakery. Be sure to visit long-time staples Matthew’s Pizza, Venice Tavern, and the original Chicken Rico!

We’ve always been a neighborhood of immigrants. Originally settled by immigrants from Germany, Poland, and Italy, Highlandtown retailers now come from five continents, including Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The district is the largest in Baltimore City and encompasses five residential neighborhoods. Those neighborhoods have some of the highest walkability ratings in the city, with residents walking to nearby schools, restaurants, galleries, parks, and out strolling with neighbors.

Highlandtown is a place where you want to hang out, bring your friends, and be yourself. We’re a neighborhood filled with diverse people sharing their experiences. We invite you to be a part of our community—whether for a visit or as a place to call home.
