Welcome to the Annapolis Arts District, a creative neighborhood just west of historic downtown Annapolis.
Start at Maryland Hall, the region's home for the arts, where you can catch the symphony, ballet, or opera. Visit the galleries during open hours to see work by local artists, or get your hands dirty in a class on painting, pottery, woodworking, and more. Pick up supplies at Art Things, the boutique art store in-house, or grab a book and a coffee at the new Park Books cafe. Before you leave, check out the murals on the grounds.
Next, walk down West Street and keep an eye out for one-of-a-kind artistic bike racks along the way. Make a custom resin cutting board or an original piece of glass art at The Resin Room. Make your hair a work of art at Hudson & Fouquet, or get some permanent art at Red Octopus Tattoos. Stop into Curate for coffee and pastries, a wine tasting, and local art on the walls. Swing by the Light House Bistro to support their mission and see the mural on its Madison Street side.
When you're hungry, grab brunch at Miss Shirley's or a wood-fired pizza at Timber Pizza. Try Thai favorites at Lemongrass, small plates under the mural at Level, oysters and creative cocktails at Sailor Oyster Bar, or an elevated multi-course meal at Leo Annapolis. End the night with a rooftop drink and live local music at Metropolitan Kitchen & Bar, where a mural of Roberta Flack keeps watch.
Make a weekend of it at the Graduate Annapolis, where a gallery of nautical art fills the walls floor to ceiling, or stay just up the street at The Westin, where you'll be close to scratch cooking and cocktails at Carpaccio Tuscan Kitchen or Sea Salt.
Want more? Historic downtown is an easy walk away. Inner West Street is home to Dinner Under the Stars, the First Sunday Arts Festival, and fun programs all year long. Browse local art at Gallery 57 West, Annapolis Collection Gallery, and Pearl Gallery, or catch a live show at Rams Head On Stage.
Farther down Main Street and up Maryland Avenue, you'll find McBride Gallery, Kim Hovell Fine Art & Gifts, the Maryland Federation of Art, Annapolis Pottery, Jo Fleming Art, and many more galleries, museums, theatres, restaurants, and public art.
Farther up West Street are ArtFarm and AND Creative, two creative hubs under one roof. Cross the Eastport drawbridge to shop for art and gifts at Nancy Hammond Editions. Or head to West Annapolis for antique shopping and creative dining, and visit the gallery inside West Annapolis Artworks and Fine Framing.
The district is just the beginning of all the art Annapolis has to offer. Spend the day and you just might want to call this place home.
