Mr. Williams has been an influential figure for musicians from the Baltimore-Washington area since the early 1950‘s. During the time he has been teaching here he has been of more sought after side men for many major artists playing in the Baltimore- Washington metropolitan area. He has touring all over the United States and Europe but has always chosen to remain close to home and family rather than staying on the road.
Over the years he has performed with many Jazz greats such as Lionel Hampton, Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Clark Terry, Stanley Cowell, Albert Dailey, Jimmy Heath, Slide Hampton, Hank Crawford and many more.
In addition to his work with jazz greats, Mr. Williams has also performed with popular artists such as Barry White, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Flip Wilson, Sammy Davis Jr., Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle, The Delfonics, The Supremes, The Temptations, The Rick Henderson Band, Lena Horn, Dionne Warwick and many more.
In 1981 Whit Williams created and currently leads the “Now’s The Time Music Band.” The artistic mission of the group is to promote an appreciation for jazz and other Afro-American styles of music through education programs and concert performances.
