MSAC Hires New Public Art Program Director

Baltimore (June 13, 2012)—Lucas Cowan joins the Maryland State Arts Council this week as Program Director of Public Art. Cowan holds a bachelor’s degree from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in fiber/material studies and a master’s degree in arts administration from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
As an undergraduate at MICA, he received the Sidney Lake Memorial Award, which is given annually to one to two seniors who have contributed to life at MICA through cooperation and leadership. During his nearly seven-year tenure as Senior Curator of Exhibits at the Chicago Office of Tourism and Culture, he curated nine major exhibits for the galleries of Millennium Park.
Starting June 13, Cowan will administer the MSAC’s Public Art Program and serve as main liaison to the Maryland Public Art Commission.
