Celebrate the 2008 Individual Artist Awards (IAA) recipients at an event on June 14, 3pm at the Brown Center at the Maryland Institute, College of Art (1301 W. Mount Royal Ave.)
The IAA program honors the accomplishments of Maryland artists and provides them with the grants to award their accomplishments. Nearly 100 Maryland artists have been selected to receive IAA awards in the following categories: Dance Solo Performance, Fiction, Media, Solo Instrumental Performance, Solo Vocal Performance, Solo Theatre Performance, Computer Arts, Photography, and Sculpture. The awarded artists receive cash awards in the amount of $6,000, $3,000 or $1,000.
Clarence Bishop, deputy secretary for Maryland’s Department of Commerce, will be a featured speaker and WYPR radio host Tom Hall will serve as emcee.
This year’s performances include:
- Ishikawa by Cathy Fink, performed by Cathy Fink, 2008 Individual Artist Award Recipient in Solo Music—Folk, and Marcy Marxer.
- Flava, choreographed and performed by Gesel Mason, 2008 Individual Artist Award recipient in Solo Dance Performance.
- Rondeña, composed and performed by Richard Marlow, 2008 Individual Artist Award Recipient in Solo Instrumental Performance.
- Banjo Pickin' Girl composition by Cathy Fink performed by award recipient Cathy Fink, with Marcy Marxer.
The reception after the ceremony will include music by the Carl Grubbs Youth Ensemble: Carl Grubbs – Piano, Blake Meister – Bass, Brandon Johnson – Drums , David Diongue – Alto Sax, Chester Saunders – Alto Sax and Alexander David – Trumpet.
