The Maryland State Arts Council board and staff attended a two-day retreat at the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland to take a deep dive into an ongoing strategic planning process.
Facilitated by Michele Walter and Lynette Turner of the AMS Planning and Research, the assembled group investigated needs and priorities in the field, definitions of “success” through the lens of our vision and mission, the current perceptions of MSAC, and national best practices. Priorities for our strategic planning process include: making room for creative thinking and engaging in the conversation meaningfully; clarifying priorities beyond grant-making; aligning aspirations with human resources; hearing from unheard voices (proactively engaging with the people who are not in the room); diversifying the portfolio of grantees, and; supporting, and aligning with, the county arts agencies.
Thank you to everyone across the state that participated in our Listening Sessions, Creative Conversations, and responded to the survey. The Maryland State Arts Council serves the people of Maryland and our work is guided by your input.
