Artist Bio

Hello! I am Sherry and I am an artist...I think...lol! Truthfully stated, I am an amateur artist who desires to be a professional artist so I am pretending to be a professional artist! I have a very difficult time with self promotion but I'm trying to get over it. First and foremost, I am a Child of the Living King, Jesus Christ, and I truly yearn to glorify Him in all I do. Our nest is currently empty, our sons having made their own nests with their families, and I believe in my whole being this is why the Lord has brought me back to my first love, drawing and painting. I am also a Ceramic Artist and have spent much of the last 15 years working in clay. I have held workshops in my home and own a kiln and a wheel. Always though, I would end up painting these elaborate designs on my pieces, spending hours and hours, so painting seems to be my passion although I have seriously neglected it most of my life. Our children were always my priority, being able to be with them as they grew up was of the utmost importance, likely because I had a working mom and I just wanted her to be home with me. Now, however, in between the grandbaby visits, I have time to paint! Now if I could just make a little money.....

I do not have a degree. I began seriously drawing in 4th grade and took Art classes all four years in High School. Drawing I & II, Ceramics I, Painting I (twice, 36 years apart) at the college level. My work with special needs students at La Plata High School brought me into the classroom of Alice Yutzy, where I learned ever so much more about ceramics and sculpture while introducing students to clay. This past spring I returned to CSM for a Painting Class with Andrew Wodjianski. My goal was to re-enter the Art World by jumping right in and it was wonderful. My maturity level was a real asset this time because I now had the patience to work the oils until they gave me what I wanted.
