Artist Bio

Sharon is a native of Maryland from the lower Eastern Shore. Born in Salisbury, she migrated along the eastern peninsula from Ocean City, Fenwick Island and Lewes, Delaware. During the quiet winter months, she immersed herself in classes at the Rehoboth Beach Art League. It was from this time period she became attracted to painting. Her passion for art lead her to study at Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts in the Smoky Mountains of Gatlinburg, Tennessee from 1973-76 and later at Frederick Community College in Frederick, MD. Along with watercolor, she has studied commercial illustration, acrylics, wearable art, 2 & 3 dimensional stitchery, on & off-loom weaving, batik, tie-dye, cast & applique jewelry, polymer clay and stoneware pottery. “Realism is an excellent description of my work. I enjoy painting the expanding beauty in front of me. I love the rustic charm of century old barns, the smell of the air while walking next to a lazy river, and the feel of soft powdery sand on a tranquil beach. Painting is my way of sharing the places I’ve been and the beauty I’ve seen.” Presently her works are exhibited in Gifts Inn Boonsboro, MD and Sundance Art & Framing in Brunswick, MD. www.GiftsInnBoonsboro.com Sharon has won top awards through the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, the Great Frederick Fair and Salisbury Institute of Art for her detailed watercolors. She has exhibited at the Weinberg Center of the Arts, Mary Condon Hodgson Gallery, Frederick County Health Department, Brunswick Museum, Frederick County Public Library, Shepherdstown Garden Tour and Arts Festival, Brunswick Railroad Days, and Frederick Arts Council Art Market, Sundance Art & Framing Gallery in Maryland and enjoyed in private and commercial collections. Sharon Benoit resides in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Hagerstown, Maryland with her family.
