Artist StatementPlaces are important to people. They connect with them emotionally. With my digital art, I present them with the opportunity to enjoy those memorable places in a fresh new way. "Fresh Perspectives on Familiar Sights"
Sarah Northwood is a Bel Air artist who was introduced to watercolor painting while in high school. Encouraged as a child to pursue her artistic abilities, she was especially fond of watercolor as a medium.
Married to her husband of 20 years and mother and home school teacher of their 6 children didn’t allow a lot of time for her to pursue her own interests, as she was directing her creativity to the care of her family and church family. Photography soon became a new passion as Northwood was rarely seen without her camera in hand.
Most recently, she was given a prophetic word that “God was harvesting ideas”. Uniting that with faith, she asked the Lord to give her an idea that she could run with and shortly after came up with the idea of this new company called “Small Town Images”. Taking photographs at just the right time and taking those photographs and turning them into sketches, she then goes into the “digital darkroom” and enhances the colors and “paints” until the finished work resembles a watercolor painting outlined in pen and ink.
Sarah has had the pleasure of displaying her work at the Bel Air Farmer’s Market during Art Month, which is April and October. She was invited to display her work at Heartbeat Boutique on Main Street in Bel Air where she was the resident artist during Art Walk last year. She had her first gallery show which was held at the Council Gallery in Bel Air at 212 South Bond Street during the months of September and October of this year. She is looking forward to her first juried Fine Art Show which is held at The Harford Day School in Bel Air during the first weekend in November. This is the 13th Annual show at the school and features 50 artists from all over the United States. She has participated in Bel Air's "Authors and Artists Christmas Show and Sale". Some of her larger works are on permanent display at Key Title Company 35 Fulford Ave, Ste 101 in Bel Air and can be seen by appointment by contacting Bob Johnson 410-803-4800 or at 130 N Bond Street in Bel Air, Maryland in a private gallery which can be seen by appointment by contacting Sarah Northwood 443-417-8384.
