Artist StatementUnless otherwise noted, I make images with a digital camera. I subsequently adjust most of the images shown to some degree for brightness, contrast, clarity, color intensity and balance, etc. to overcome optical limitations and/or to achieve a desired aesthetic effect. (I do not use Photoshop). My photographs are available either matted or framed. Image media and mat boards are acid-free for longevity.
My interest in photography began around the time of my 13th birthday, when I received a “Yashica A”, which is a twin lens reflex film camera whose exposure I set manually using a hand held light meter, and which produced 2 ¼ inch square negatives. I built a black and white darkroom in my parent’s basement. Since my exploration of photography began in monochrome, I became used to visualizing potential subject matter in grey tones.
Although initially a reluctant convert to digital technology, I now embrace the creative opportunities that it offers. I continue to explore different techniques (such as long exposures) when they serve my evolving subject matter interests. I exhibit locally and have developed a website in which temporary portfolios are arranged thematically with accompanying text.
