Artist Bio

Justin Plakas is an artist and designer whose work is actively engaged with the interaction between physical and virtual environments.

His work has been screened in festivals and exhibited in galleries throughout the United States and internationally.

Plakas was an artist in residence at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, The Hub Culture Arts lnitiative and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. ln addition to his personal studio practice, he has worked in film production, photography and advertising.

Plakas's multi-disciplinary background is reflected in his collaborative work with PLAKOOKEE. ln partnership with artist Rachel Debuque, PLAKOOKEE creates work that ranges from socially engaged residency projects to installations, video, animation and design. He received his MFA at the University of Georgia with a focus in Photography and his BA degree from University of Maryland Baltimore County' Justin lives and works in Hyattsville, Maryland with his wife and their studio dog Sherman.
