Artist Statement

My work unfolds through analysis of visual culture. I create drawings, paintings, and sculpture beginning with iconographic elements of contemporary society. I look at advertisements, signs, flags and various other visual sources. I alter and combine this visual information to create new meaning, questions, and stories. The work provokes the formation of meaning and the tension in the visual and mental apparatus. Where does what you know about what you see come from? A work of art as a contemplative intervention, as a wide-open mental space, is my intention.
