Artist StatementMy work is an exploration of paint and abstraction using my surroundings and experiences for inspiration. I work on raw canvas building up the surface through a series of layers ranging from thin washes to thick palette knife application trying to capture a balance between the two extremes. The paint itself is part of what has drawn me to painting as the medium itself influences creative decisions allowing for a push in pull that I find necessary to create art. My subject matter is driven by my surroundings and my interactions with them. For the past few years I have been most interested in city structure. I have been working to simplify and create an emotional response to the ideas that interest me most about cities; growth, disrepair, and revitalization.
