Artist StatementFor me, art is a means to motivate viewers to some action and to provoke thought. A way to converse with the world, saying things that can only be said through the visual. To share common life experiences in uniquely different ways. Always intimate, Always honest and sometimes profound. This is what I hope to achieve through this conversation called art.
A New York City native, Elroy Williams attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, where he majored in fine arts and painting as well as commercial art. The dual course of study provided the foundation for his multifaceted career as a painter, illustrator and award-winning advertising designer and editorial art director.
To achieve his goal of connecting with people and provoking thought through his art, Williams uses a variety of media, alone and sometimes in combination. Each medium affords a particular feeling for a certain theme or subject, he believes, and he works with pastels, oils, acrylics, watercolors, pen and ink, charcoal, graphite, found objects and intaglio etching.
Williams’ work has appeared in regional and national juried exhibitions at Blanche Ames Gallery, Savannah State University, BlackRock Center for the Arts, Maryland Federation of Art, Maryland Pastel Society national juried and members exhibits, Glenview Mansion, Montgomery College, XS Baltimore Gallery Restaurant and others,
