Music, Other, Performing Arts
Artist StatementMy work in music and theater is from deep within. It is genuine, sincere, and desirably thought-provoking.
Dr. Duke Thompson is an OUT-OF-THE-BOX piano player. His classical training (Doctor of Piano Performance from Arizona State University, cum laude) combined with his love of many different styles (Americana, Blues, Pop, Deep n' Profound) and his love to get evocative sounds from the piano (i.e. canon fire in The Battle of Antietam) make the piano come across as new and sensational to his audiences. Duke Thompson has performed in Japan, Europe, Canada, and across The United States. His four solo piano CDs are heralded. The are "Greatly Gershwin" (Gershwin and MacDowell), Lots to Consider (Original compositions), These Hands Rock (Amazing piano arrangements of Classic Rock tunes from The Doors, The Who, The Beatles, King Crimson, Billy Joel, etc.), and Dr. Duke as Lincoln (Originals and arrangements of music for The Civil War such as Amazing Grace, Fraternity in Fredericksburg, The Battle of Antietam). Duke Thompson was the Chairperson of Music Department at Red Deer Colleg in Canada befor moving back to Maryland to found Maryland Conservatory of Music in 2001, where Dr. Thompson currently serves as Director and President.
