Artist StatementAs a glass artist, I have found that working with glass allows me to use transparent colors, opaque colors, matte and shiny surfaces, textures as well as as smooth surfaces. Glass jewelry affords the wearer to have a bit of unique art work to wear. My functional glass work ensures that a useful and beautiful bowl or plate allows the owner to have a work of art in their home.
I first began my career as an Art Teacher after obtaining an Art Education degree. I taught art for several years in the public school system. After leaving teaching, I continued my interest in 'all things art' by working in pastels and acrylic, favoring abstract pieces as well as landscapes. I 'found' glass on a summer vacation by visting a glass art museum and then , purchasing several fused glass jewelry pieces over a three year period. When the opportunity to take a fused glass jewelry class appeared, I found a medium that I love and the match was made. Several other classes were taken and the knowledge gained by working with exceptional glass artists has been phenominal. I have participated in juried art shows with MFA in Annapolis and the National Capital Art Glass Guild. I also participate in several well known regional art shows. On a personal level, working with the abundance of styles in glass keeps me passionate about glass. I hope that excitement spills over into my work.
