Bonnie Velasco is a local artist living in Mt. Airy, Maryland. She is a retired Art Educator with 25 years experience in the Maryland Public School system.
Bonnie volunteers as the Art Director of the Mt. Airy Arts Alliance, a recently formed community non-profit organization that focuses on bringing Visual & Performing Arts to her community.
She also volunteers at the Days End Farm Horse Rescue (www.DEFHR.org) where she continues her work on her “pet” project of assisting horses to paint! The vibrant abstract works of art created by the horses are auctioned off during various fundraising events held by Days End Farm. All proceeds go to the care & rehabilitation of the abused and neglected horses that make up Days End Farm.
Bonnie received a B.A. in Art Education and an M.F.A. from the University of Maryland.
In 2009 Bonnie was awarded The Washington Post’s Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher of the Year for Frederick County Public Schools.
