I have been a practicing internal medicine physician for 28 years. Prior to my medical school education I was interested in pursuing a career in art. I had always been fascinated by drawing and had developed my skills but circumstances pushed me in a different direction. In 2008 I decided to pursue what I had put on hold. I continue to practice medicine and find that art helps me to problem solve by utilizing the right side of my brain.
My paintings and pastels have evolved through many genres and with experience and experimentation I have found intense color excites me. I have been inspired by the colorist groups, Wayne Theibaud, and Richard Deibenkorn. Constructing compositions using intense color is a challenge. The difficulty is avoiding any one area dominating the painting. I use glazing to increase the luminosity of color or decrease the intensity. Reaching the goal of a cohesive whole that conveys movement and emotion is a satisfying experience.
