Artist Statement
Artist Statement, Betsy Kendrick I began my life as an artist at The Maryland Institute of Art in 1984. I explored all media, it was all fascinating to me. My favorite class there was Figurative Sculpture with Jonathon Shaun. However i finished school with a concentration in Painting, thanks to a year in France at The Leo Marchutz School in Provence. A year and a half ago I had major life transitions and began to explore clay again, a dream I'd had for years, and I have not stopped since. The ceramic artist who has inspired me most is Susan Halls. Her animal pieces are the perfect mix to me, of strange and beautiful. And her books taught me the logistics of working hollow, something I had not learned in school. I hope to continue my exploration of the figure and portrait.Artist Bio
