All of my work arises in the thrill of discovery. My sculptural work combines that thrill and my fascination with the mechanical. I love to take apart pieces of technology and discover what’s inside. I often find myself pondering the individual components, how they each were painstakingly engineered and how they come together as a whole. Many times I have wondered about what becomes of these objects after we dispose of them, without a thought as to the time and energy that went into them. I think about their decay, especially in relation to the hard work and deliberation that went into their creation. I also think about discovering their remains, not only in the way an archeologist unearths an artifact but also in the way a child discovers a sharks tooth or an arrow head. In many ways I’m not creating sculpture as much as I am discovering my own relics.
