Artist Statement

In my work I create abstract images that are comprised of overlapping and interweaving lines that suggest an internal energy. What interests me most is when my lines and clusters band together to create different expressions or energies. I approach my mark-making with two different mindsets. The first mindset is the energy created with text, especially when differnet languages, fonts, and shapes are combined. This type of line and shape that I create is more pragmatic and thought out. I use my own alphabet of shapes and images to create these elements. My second mark stems from the energy that I find within myself, based on experiences, ideas, or moods. This line is more gestural and expressive and communicates a more expressive and intuitive mark. It has an almost bodily feeling suggesting a mark that is more internal. What interets me is the entropy that occurs between these two types of line and shape.
