Artist StatementMy artwork is an externalization of music, ideas, and places I love. My work often explores various aspects of coastal living which reflects heavily on my upbringing and my travels. While I use a variety of processes in each project my methodology is consistent. The figures I paint are contrasted with bold colors and dark outlines. The city and landscapes are based in realism. The abstract pieces take on twists of irony, illusion, or the joining of two subjects that contrast each other. The blue tones used in my coastal works take on a life of their own, twisting into violent waves or smoothed across a palm tree scattered skyline. My artwork is based primarily with acrylics on canvas, but my paintbrush wanders onto clothing or wood from time to time. Each travel experience widens my view of the world and provides me with a multitude of ideas and images to express onto canvas to lead to the next body of work.
