Artist StatementTo me, the challenge of the two-dimensional picture plane is to create a fourth dimension, that of movement. To accomplish this, I take advantage of the plasticity of oil paint, bold brush strokes and strong color. The vivid areas of color fighting with each other to hold the picture plane create tension and thus, movement.
Alice has been actively exhibiting her oil paintings for the past seven years. While some of her paintings are plein air, much of her work has been painted in the studio from sketches and photographs created during her adventure travels. Her work captures the unique landscapes and architectural structures of nearby and distant locales with an emphasis on the interplay of color and light.
