Poet Laureate Appearances

Poet Laureate Visit to Potomac High, Oxon Hill, MD

Stanley Plumly was appointed ninth Poet Laureate of Maryland on October 1, 2009 by Governor Martin O’Malley. He is the author of nine books of poetry, including Old Heart (Norton, 2008), which won the Los Angeles Times Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Award in 2007. He is the recipient of several awards and fellowships including a Guggenheim Fellowship, eight Pushcart Prizes, the Paterson Poetry Prize (2007), an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters (2002) and a fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation (2001). He was inducted into the Academy of Arts and Sciences in October, 2010.

As Poet Laureate, Mr. Plumly is available to speak about modern poetry, John Keats, and give a reading ofhis work. His visit is free, though an honorarium may be offered if you wish.

Mr. Plumly is now accepting engagements and is especially interested in speaking to high school students.
