MARYLAND FOLKLIFE PROGRAMThe Maryland Folklife Program is the longest-running state folklife program in the nation. It was founded in 1974 as a pilot program of the NEA and MSAC and was based on the American Folklife Center's federal model. Over the past four decades, we have documented and presented Maryland folklife through fieldwork, festivals, archival initiatives, and publications. In 2001, we co-founded a statewide folklife infrastructure/partnership program called Maryland Traditions which is now the state's chief initiative to document and sustain living traditions. The Maryland Folklife Program also administers Grants for Organizations for folk and traditional arts organizations in Maryland. Check the sub-menu on the left for more information.
