Maryland Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (MdVLA) is a group of lawyers (and business leaders) who like art so much that since 1985, they have been volunteering their time, energies and expertise to help artists. The mission of MDVLA is to provide high-quality legal services to low-income artists and non-profit arts organizations.
An ongoing service that MdVLA provides are free Art Law Clinics. Artists may bring any short-form legal issue to the clinic, where they will have the opportunity to meet with an attorney for a half-hour. Complex issues requiring more time will be referred to MdVLA’s pro bono referral system and have to meet income requirements.
For artists in Western Maryland, MdVLA presents Copyright Basics for Artists from 12:00-1:00pm on April 5 at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Bowman Gallery (401 Museum Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21741) with volunteer attorney Hank Abromson.
MdVLA's final spring Art Law Clinic this spring is on Saturday, April 12 from 1:00-4:00pm at MdVLA (1500 Union Ave., Baltimore MD 21211). Drop in or email firstname.lastname@example.org for an appointment.
