Artist StatementWes is a Baltimore based oil painter and brush and ink artist who focuses on landscapes, flowers and portraits. Believing that an artists primary role is to interpret and record what they see everyday he paints lesser known locations and cityscapes of urban Maryland. He also travels abroad to paint locations worth rendering for local collectors.
Wes started a professional art career as a scenic painter for opera companies in the late 1970s.
Leaving Baltimore for New York in 1982 he worked in the theater for ten years.
While living in the big apple he earned a fan following by illustrating record covers for punk
bands including Lifesblood, Sheer Terror, Born Against and Raw Deal. Some of his covers are
considered “classic” collectables.
Returning to the Mid-Atlantic in the late 1980s he started an 18-year career as a graphic journalist. Work in
newspapers saw him published by the Army Times, Washington Post, Baltimore Sun and medical
journals for Johns Hopkins among other publications.
He also has painted landscapes on travels to Latin America, Europe and Africa, specifically, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Italy and Sicily.
Currently Mr. Harvey renders images in cutting edged computer graphics, while developing
traditional oil technique for gallery showings.
