Artist StatementThe essence of art is to show people a different way of looking at the world we live in. Our everyday choices become what will directly or indirectly shape who we are. Most people are content to travel through life only noticing the bare minimum of the world that surrounds them. They become accustomed to the things that they see everyday and begin to take for granted that there might be something more to the world they live in. My artwork is about pulling meaning from that which most people may regard as meaningless. I am making people look twice and appreciate the importance and the beauty behind the everyday. As an artist, it is my responsibility to create. There can be no limits placed on the process of creation. Stunning open landscapes, playful forms found within the branches of trees, the variety of colors and textures that are found on the walls of old weather beaten buildings, and the emotions and subtleties of the people that we pass on the streets are just a few examples of the everyday wonder that I capture in my paintings. There is more out there than most people care to notice. I see these everyday things that make us the people that we are and I paint them so that we might begin to appreciate and enjoy the world we live in and the little things that have helped to shape our lives.
