Artist Statement

My paintings are strongly influenced by my eclectic background and my personal vision of the world as essentially a positive and joyous place. Many of my works depict scenes from everyday life, and my favorite subjects include family-run shops, cafes, restaurants (especially kitchens), old bars, people working, and people in cafes. I also like to paint scenes from nature, such as skies and landscapes from my native PEI and my adopted home in Spain. Watercolor and watercolor and ink are my chosen mediums. I feel that the spontaneous nature of watercolor suits my energetic personality. My goal is not to reproduce a scene exactly, but rather to convey the overall feel of a place and the inherent joy that I find in my subjects.
