Artist StatementMy work continues to evolve with a focus on human interest. Through painting and drawing I work to create a documentary of the marks we leave as humans in our daily lives. Currently I am developing a series that will give more voice to some of the current issues our nation is facing.
Selena Reames, an American born contemporary artist, has been painting and drawing for over 20 years. Creating as a child and a teenager naturally lead her to more formal studies of art. She obtained her degree in the visual arts at the University of Maryland Baltimore County in Baltimore, MD. Her work has long been based on human interest – narratives of the marks that we leave as humans. Reames’ most recent works have focused on utilizing clothing and specifically dresses as portraits of a person. Often these paintings will focus on dresses that represent events that are culturally significant to a woman in our society – communion dresses, prom dresses & wedding dresses. She is interested in developing these paintings to create a visual record of women in our culture.
