Artist Statement"Art cannot be defined, judged, or captured. It's free, its objective, its ever changing" -Pamela Merrick
Pamela Merrick is a self taught artist and work-at-home homeschooling mother from Baltimore, MD with an affinity for bold saturated colors. She creates paintings, sculptures, home decor, t-shirts, and more.
She dabbled with Charcoal at a very early age sketching portraits for fun. However she didn’t stick with Charcoal. She later transitioned to mixed media artwork and most frequently uses acrylic or digital painting, although she didn’t make her first painting until 2010. Ms. Merrick’s work has no limitation in style, medium, or subject matter. Whatever comes to her mind is manifested in her work.
“I just can’t see any reason to limit myself to any particular medium or style. All of life is my canvas and I am a lover of art in its fullest possible spectrum. I see art in everything around me. It haunts me like a friendly ghost”- Pamela Merrick
“Pamela Evokes” is all about pouring the HUMAN experience onto any conceivable surface. Ms. Merrick sees art as an opportunity for all of OUR passions, hobbies, and day to day encounters to be expressed through imagery that touches and evokes us.
The inspiration for the name "Evoke" comes from the African "call and response" tradition. In African tradition you cannot be just a spectator during celebrations. Participation of everyone is expected and to everyone’s pleasure. In the same way it is hoped that these creations call out and demand a response from its viewer. Whether it is an emotion that is triggered, personal growth, resolution for change or heightened awareness about a particular subject, one of Ms. Merrick's goals is to leave no one who views her work in the same state that they came in. What will be evoked in you? Passion? Joy? Love? Rebellion? The Canvas eagerly awaits your answer.
"Not everything is deep and super meaningful. Life has its place for fun, lightheartedness, and simply making things look pretty :) . There's a kid in all of us looking to be released. I hope you enjoy the work. I do it for you."-Pamela Merrick
