Artist StatementA multi-disciplinary artist, I work in several media, including and not limited to, acrylic, pastel, letterpress, bookbinding, screen printing, and film. Much of the work is conceptual in nature ~ beginning with a set of parameters that are self-determined, such as painting a landscape in a square format with the intent to discover how best to create a sense of space within that format. Also, to limit palette choice before venturing forth with more. My masters work involved the creation of several artist books based on the game of Scrabble ~ how to mine and visually represent a game that was played and to keep the game active and current with the use of printmaking, bookbinding, and letterpress techniques. Scrabble is a game that has a finite set of conditions: 225 squares and 100 letters. Endless permutations!
Primarily a self-taught artist, Sanzi did receive her masters degree in 2008 from Leeds Metropolitan University in Leeds, UK. Her work is conceptually based ~ dealing with process and ideas behind the construct of the individual pieces.
