Artist Bio

Art making is the process of myth making. It is the primary way humans integrate their inner worlds with their surroundings. Humans have always been telling stories to figure out where-exactly they fit into this complex world. They have made gods and heavens and hells. They have given names to everything under and over the sun. So, When many people think of mythology they think of stories told long ago in the dim past to describe a threatening world. That, however, is only the beginning of the idea. The process of humans' mental integration with the world continues today. It is the prime energy which makes us what we are. Stories have nothing to do with truth though they instruct. The intensity of overlapping stories and explanations in today's world is often confusing because many story tellers today insist on the absolute truth of their stories. When there are so many truths in the world people lose hold on what is really important. They lose track of their integration with the energies of the natural world. My work is not about absolute truth. My work seeks to integrate the viewer with the stories of the natural world. The rhythms of the world ebb and flow all around us. That energy is made up of the stories told by our ancestors. If we seek absolute truth from these stories we will get confused. Instead I work with my hands to weave the energies of my ancestors into objects which challenge the viewer to relax and let go of conventional modern ideas of stories and let their minds reintegrate with the natural world. As this happens the viewer will begin to swim in all the stories I have ever heard. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Education: Maryland Institute College of Art (BFA Painting, 1998); Harford Community College (1993-94) Solo Exhibitions: Daily Grind Cafe, Fells Point, Baltimore, MD (2001); XandO Cafe, Charles Village, Baltimore, MD (1999); One World Cafe, Federal Hill, Baltimore, MD (1999); Student Space Gallery, MICA, Baltimore, MD (1998).
