Artist Statement

Since 2006, Lou Joseph and Micah Bornstein have created a body of COLOSSUS-related work consisting of paintings, drawings, comics and objects. During these searching years, the COLOSSUS theme gradually surfaced, and an origin story formed. The COLOSSUS is a dynamic body of work rooted in traditional aesthetics and narrative, but with an imagined trajectory that includes methods more relational, conceptual and performative. We are heavily influenced by mid-century textbooks about space exploration, scientific discovery and technological innovation. We are fascinated by their promises of a better tomorrow and the risks inherent.
