I am a life-long learner. My professors have described me as a "watercolor master," but I am competent in acrylic, oil, and my favorite media is pastel.
As a teenager, I studied commercial art and design before graduating from high school in Baltimore City. I then completed my undergraduate studies at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Though I majored in Illustration, I loved printmaking and black and white photography as well. As an illustration student, I explored mixed media in two dimensional formats, focusing on storyboards and children's book illustration. Upon graduating, I worked in New York City as a web and Photoshop designer. I currently hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt, and a Masters in Education from Towson University.
My love for learning prompted my enrollent at the Art Students League, where I discovered the joys of pastel. I studied pastel and anatomy under several master teachers, and then enrolled in a teaching program. I have been a certified art educator for 12 years, teaching grades K-12. I have also taught Advanced Placement Studio Art, which is similar to a foundations, college-level art program. When I am not teaching, I spend my summers with my son, painting in my home studio, or running my online, crochet business.
As a teaching artist, I can provide students instruction in drawing, painting, and preparation for AP exams. I hold an Advanced Professional state certification in Art K-12, and was honored by the Maryland Art Education Association for outstanding service in 2012.
