Artist Statement

I work in a hybrid medium combining painting and hand embroidery. These very different materials and processes work beautifully together for exploring abstract ideas and laying a rich ground to contemplating time, movement and chance. I use hand embroidery, individually stitch on each bead and acrylic paint on linen. I like the pace of working slowly and quietly, working with both hands, engaging in a graceful, effortless repetition, allowing lots of time for ideas to evolve. I rarely know where I going at the start. I do a fast, unplanned painting then I stitch and figure it out as I go.
