Artist Bio

John Lingan has written for The Oxford American, BuzzFeed, The Virginia Quarterly Review, Slate, The New Republic and many other national publications. He is currently writing a nonfiction book about country music and class struggle in the northern Shenandoah Valley, to be published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 2018. The book will tell the story of "Joltin" Jim McCoy, a musician, DJ, and honky-tonk owner who in 1948 become the first person to put Shenandoah native Patsy Cline on the radio.

A lifelong Marylander, John was raised in Catonsville, attended the McDonogh School in Owings Mills, and now lives with his wife and two young children in Rockville, following years in Baltimore.
