Artist Statement

My photography represents my quest of seeking spirits from long ago. I use my camera to explore sacred, historical, and haunted spaces and places around the globe. Using black and white and infrared processes I strive to visually communicate to others my experience at these unique places. I find that capturing the contrast of light to shadow is an effective medium for expressing the mood of these ethereal places from times past. I began my study of photography in New Orleans, LA in the 1990’s. Subsequently, in Dallas, TX it was my study of the paranormal and ghost hunting that introduced me to infrared photography. The infrared illuminates what is invisible to the naked eye and exposes this spectrum to the camera. The result is a beautiful and surreal image, taking what appears quite ordinary and reveals an otherworldly image. To enhance my photography skills, I enrolled in the professional photography program at the Washington School of Photography. I now reside in my native home of Maryland. I am currently working on three projects. “The Haunted Traveler” project is a collection of photographs of haunted sites by region around the world. I recently finished shooting in Belfast, Northern Ireland and various towns throughout Ireland. Secondly, I am working on a “Sacred Spaces and Places” collection of photographs of spiritual places I have discovered over time. Thirdly, I am creating a visual biography of John Wilkes Booth’s life – photographing places associated with him from birth to his death. I invite you to explore and enjoy the images I create while seeking spirits from long ago.
