Artist StatementI create art out of a need to create order in a world that is confusing at times. The solitary process of art making allows contemplation and exploration of issues or questions that are not clearly understood or resolved. My work generally focuses on issues of identity as a female Irish immigrant married to another immigrant of different race and religion. I alternate between the use of encaustic/digital imagery and oil painting, generally using encaustic/digital to manipulate what has been seen and captured while I use oil to create from my own thoughts, imagination or experiences.
I was born in Dublin, Ireland and graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin in 1986. A few years ago I gave up a career as a software engineering manager to pursue a full time career as an artist. In 2006 I graduated with an Associate of Fine Arts Degree from the Corcoran College of Arts and Design and since then I have been building up a body of work that reflects my character and that which touches me.
