Artist Statement

Carol has been painting most of her adult life—a span of approximately 40 years. She has always been inspired by her children and as a result has made portraiture her passion. Since her family has grown and she has retired, she has devoted more time to her work with portraits and is now doing it on a commission basis. These paintings include portraits of adults, children and animals. She has received awards for some of her work and donated some pieces to various charities such as the Humane Society in Hagerstown. She also enjoys creating landscapes as well and has expanded her work to include visions of the Antietam Battlefield, many that have sold, incorporating current views of the battlefield with apparitions from the past. She uses a variety of media in her work including pastels, charcoal, acrylics, oils, watercolors and inks. Carol has displayed her artwork in various shows throughout the area and frequently does demonstrations during the displays. She currently has a display at The Mansion House Art Gallery and is now teaching art art classes in acrylic painting. Carol’s paintings are available for purchase through carolwilks.net, or at the Mansion House Art Gallery, Hagerstown, Maryland, City Park as well as many shows throughout the year. Please feel free to contact Carol directly at cwilks@myactv.net or her website carolwilks.net.
