Artist Statement

As a devotional artist, ritualist, priestess, and writer, my mission is to create living portals of communication between the worlds. My studio is the crossroads where I open my heart and connect with the divine within and beyond, so I can listen to the spirits and create artwork to give them physical expression. My works are vessels that provide a contained and sacred space where the human and greater-than-human can interact. They translate the unseen into the seen to aid in the spiritual healing, evolution, and transformation of our individual and communal souls. Each piece is a spiritual offering to further the work of the gods and goddesses. My work begins with visions that haunt me until I begin work on bringing them into a form visible to the physical eye. With each project, I consider which media are best suited to bringing these visions into manifestation, and I hunt and gather a wide variety of sources for my materials. Working with different media reminds me that our perception of reality and the parameters in which we live and work are shaped by the material realm. I am currently exploring the 32 paths of wisdom as found in the Hermetic qabala (with respect to its parent root in the Jewish kabbalah), along with a series of portraits of the orisha of the African Diasporic Traditions and a variety of spirits met in shamanic journeys.
