Artists-in-Residence Program

The AiE Artists-in-Residence Program provides opportunities for hands-on intensive workshops involving a small core group of students and teachers over a period of days or weeks.

Artists and companies selected by an advisory panel to participate in the Artists-in-Residence program are listed on the Artist-in-Residence Roster of Artists. They are selected on the basis of their artistic achievement and ability to work with students and faculty in a school environment.

The online application for a residency during the 2013-2014 school year is open.

The deadline to apply online in eGrant is May 17, 2013. The deadline to postmark/mail a hardcopy of the application (signed by site coordinator and principal) is May 24, 2013. MSAC must receive the signed hard copy for the application to be considered complete.

Schools should check eGrant now to confirm their log-in and password information. New schools should create an account. New site coordinators should open the school profile in eGrant (“my account” at the top of the screen after logging in) and change the contact name and email of previous site coordinator to their own or they will not receive the PDF of their application once submitted.

A hard copy of the applications/guidelines is available here for reference only. Applications must be submitted online. It is strongly recommended that applicants apply early, and prepare applications in a Word Document before applying online.

Questions should be directed to Arts in Education Program Director Chris Stewart at cstewart@msac.org or 410-767-6476.

SCHOOL APPLICATION PROCESS:

Please closely review the guidelines below. Applications that fail to meet the guidelines will not be accepted.

  • Select an artist from the online Artist-in-Residence and Visiting Performer Roster
  • Contact artist to discuss the duration of the residency. Determine round trip mileage expenses and calculate a travel budget
  • Complete eGrant.net application and submit to your selected artist for approval
  • Upon his or her application approval, the artist provides confirmation code
  • Enter this code to complete the eGrant Application
  • Once the application is submitted, eGrant.net generates an email with a PDF attachment of the completed application to the e-mail address that corresponds with “site coordinator” in the school’s profile.
  • If you need to change the “site coordinator,” information on file, sign-in and click “user info” in the white menu bar at the top of the screen to edit that information.
  • The hard copy must be printed, signed in blue ink by the principal and site coordinator and mailed to MSAC AiE Program, C/O Chris Stewart, Program Director (postmarked no later than one week after the eGrant.net deadline).
  • More in depth information about the program and application process may be found in this presentation: Arts in Education-eGrant Program Info and How Tos

*Note: only a teacher or administrator may be the site coordinator.

If awarded, the school pays half of the cost of the residency, which includes half of the artists’ travel, and must cover the full cost of materials. The MSAC grant covers the cost for the remaining half of the residency.

Schools chosen for the MSAC AiR grant are notified in late August or early September. Schools must then pay their half, or “local match,” to MSAC by December 1, or the residency is cancelled. The MSAC then pays the artist the full grant amount.
